  • Take a walk in Istiklal street at night, bustling with people even a 02:00AM.
  • Going out for a meal? Head to the Dance of Colours for a two part performance of whirling dervish, Sufi music and dances from many different Turkish regions.
  • Under Galata bridge there are numerous seafood restaurants, daily fresh fish can be tasted at low prices.
  • No visit to Istanbul is complete without exploring the Old City. Visit the Blue Mosque with its dome ceiling, minarets and stained glass windows, Hagia Sofi a built by Emperor Justinian in 537AD.
  • Most people cannot speak English, keep a little dictionary handy on your travels.
  • Looking for romance? Take a night time cruise up the Bosphorus and watch the twinkling lights of both the Asian and European side of Istanbul.
  • When bargaining in the covered bazaar, remember a price tag of ‘100’ can either be € or $.
  • Textile hunting? Many people come from all over the world to buy textiles and rugs from Istanbul and there is no end to the options of places to shop.
  • Try local cuisine carefully as hot pepper is added to meals without asking.
  • History of the Orient Express! Visit the architectural magnificence of Sirkeci Railway station and the Pera Palace Hotel, guests included Florence Nightingale, Agatha Christie and Greta Garbo.
  • If you choose to go to Prince’s Island by yourselves be careful to catch to last ferry back to Istanbul.
  • Remember if you visit Topkapi palace you will have to pay separately for harem section.
