About PALMYRA HOLIDAYS

A desert oasis that was once a monumental city on the caravan trade route linking Persia, India and China with the Roman Empire. The ancient Roman city of Palmyra, once known as the ‘Bride of the Desert’, was heavily influenced by Persian architecture and design. Today the ruins which date back to the 2nd century AD are made up of colonnaded streets, temple remains and funerary towers and cover some 50 hectares. Since its discovery in the 17th and 18th centuries, the modern city of Palmyra has grown around the ruins.

When To Go

Typical Mediterranean Summers are usually dry and hot, winters tend to be cool however temperatures can drop to as low as 5C in most parts of the country. The best times to visit Syria is April, May and winter seasons. Deir Ezzor in the dry eastern half of the country sees less rain as other areas like Aleppo which receive almost double the amount of rain. Summers are hot and dry and can reach up to highs of forty in Damascus and Aleppo.  Snow can be experienced in the higher western part of Syria through most of the winter.
