About CULTURAL TRIANGLE
Sri Lanka’s Cultural triangle is situated in the centre of the island and covers an area which includes the World Heritage cultural sites of, the Ancient City of Polonnaruwa, the Ancient City of Sigiriya, the Ancient City of Dambulla and the Sacred City of Kandy. Perhaps the most famous is the Sacred City of Anuradhapura, which was founded around 5th Century BC and is the oldest city in the Cultural Triangle and Sri Lanka’s first capital. In its heyday, thousands of people lived in a city of royal palaces, monasteries and temples topped by glittering jewels.
Due to the stunning scenic experience and historical events and associations, some of which are millennia old, these sites are visited by both pilgrims and tourists alike.
