About SOUTH COAST of Mauritius

The South coast is where the island's history started and is the least developed wild and authentic part of the island. It has dramatically different landscape with stunning scenery with high cliffs which have been created formed from a protective barrier of coral reef. The vegetation in the South is the richest on the island mainly due to the year round high humidity. Following the coast around, there are arrays of beautiful beaches usually where hotels are located.  The town of Mahebourg is lively and friendly with the majority of inhabitants being fisherman and field workers the  town has a dawn to dusk  authentic feel.

SOUTH COAST of Mauritius

  • Rochester Falls where water has cut large stepped shapes through the lava stone.
  • The traditional Biscuit Factory in Mahébourg which produces Cassava biscuits since 1870.
  • La Vanille  Réserve des Mascareignes (over 3,5 hectares of tropical vegetation) - authentic and wild landscapes. A haven for crocodiles and other reptiles and animals.
  • Gris Gris cliffs and wild surroundings (this area is different - no reefs to protect the coast from the strong waves of the Indian Ocean, it offers a total contrast to the other calm lagoons).

SOUTH COAST of Mauritius

  • Blue Bay Marine Park (353 hectares of the beautiful marine life).
  • Ile aux Aigrettes – a small island of nature reserve.
  • Le Morne Brabant (a spectacular isolated peninsula) - it is highlighted by 556m basaltic mountain that rises alone from the centre of Le Morne peninsula.

SOUTH COAST of Mauritius

  • Water sports (such as kite surfing).
  • xRando Fun - a day full of surprises! (Hiking; Bathing in fresh water canyon; Quad biking; Zip-lines & hanging bridges and much more).
