As the world's largest artivicial body of water, Lake Nasser's dimensions are staggering. From the High Dam it stretches over 300 miles (480 km), down into Sudan, and in places spreads to over 22 miles (35 km) in width. It is also the most stunningly beautiful, unspoiled region of Egypt.

Aswan

Aswan is larger, but much quieter than Luxor, it is Egypt’s southernmost city and one of her most beautiful, sitting alongside some of the best stretches of the Nile.Situated on the first Cataract of the Nile and offering visitors year round sun, Aswan, is also pleasantly warm in Winter. It is within easy reach of the Nubian Temples on the shore of Lake Nasser, such as the Temple of Philae, the unfinished Obelisk and the High Dam. Abu Simbel is also accessible from Aswan and is well worth a visit. Watching the feluccas meander down the Nile as the sun sets is an experience you’re unlikely to forget.

Kasr Ibrim

Kasr Ibrim is an archeological site in Lower Nubia. It was originally a major city perched on a cliff above the Nile, but the flooding of Lake Nasser after the construction of the Aswan High Dam transformed it into an island and flooded its outskirts. Kasr Ibrim is the only major archaeological site in Lower Nubia to have survived the Nile floods. Both prior to and after the Nile floods, it has remained a major site for archaeological investigations.

The Abu Simbel

The two massive temples of Abu Simbel sit on the West Bank of Lake Nasser. Originally carved out of the mountainside during the reign of Pharaoh Ramesses II as monuments to himself and his queen Nefertari, the temples were relocated to their current location in the 1960’s due to the construction of the Aswan High Dam.
